We spent this afternoon with our guests Val, Jen, and Jill (Molly’s Mom). They introduced the children to a variety of different types of bird nests. The children were given some time to explore the nests and draw them. Afterwards, we went outside and the children built their own nests using a twig, straw, and pieces of yarn. Their challenge…the completed nests needed to be strong enough to hold 3 chocolate eggs. In order to succeed, the children needed to work together, compromise and cooperate.
“Can we build with cards today? Please…?” That’s the question a group of children ask me each morning during our ease-in time. They build elaborate structures and work together to create them. Sometimes they are schools, animals, or even forts and lodges. This particular structure was a Rocket Ship built using imagination and cooperation. They’re always excited about their accomplishment, eager to share it with their classmates and always ask me to take a photo. I no longer have a complete deck of cards, but I do have some happy architects!
